Return from the beyond
Hey everyone,
realized that it's been a very long time since I've posted around here. A lot has happened in my life since the last post, and I'll spare most of the the details.
I wanted however to help promote a new site put online by a good friend of mine. Spring by Example, is run by David Winterfeldt, a good friend an proactive open source advocate. I invite you all to take a look if you are at all interested in Spring. Those who want to learn, this is a great place with examples being added all the time. And for those of you who know Spring well, please contribute.
I'll try to post more often.

American Politics
Ok, I happen to catch this story this afternoon on Digg, and had to comment about it.
Everyone seems to think they know what the President thinks and stands for, I usually say you can tell a lot about a person by the people you keeps friends with. This is the story : "Zinsmeister: ‘I’ll Never Hire Another Woman Because They Just Get Pregnant And Leave’". This is the domestic policy adviser that Bush chose to have? Can you really be more obtuse. I agree that in certain functions, a woman getting pregnant and taking Maternity leave can cause some headaches for a company, but to go to the extent of saying that because woman can get pregnant, and may choose to take leave to spend time with their children, you'll never hire one again?. I think it is a great move for a family to have a parent home with their children at a young age, that is when they learn the basics of life.
thats my rant for today.

Hockey
Well after last night's game, which was a good one to watch, Ottawa leads 3-0 in the series against Buffalo. They played well, allowing only 15 shots against Emery. Anytime you can limit a playoff game to 15 shots on your goaltender, your chances of winning increase greatly.
I am looking forward to see Ottawa in the finals, and unless they decide to pull a similar feat as the New York Yankees in 2004, and lose a 3-0 lead against the Boston Red Sox, we will be seing them in the next round.
Ottawa needs to keep playing the way they are, back-checking, pinching on those long passes along the blue line, and keep driving the net. I must say that in the last minutes of last night's game, i started getting worried, because Buffalo was putting on the pressure around the net. Similar to Saturday night's game when Buffalo's Daniel Briere scored with 5.8 seconds left in the third period.
let's see how Wednesday's game goes.
Go SENS Go.

That's 1 for Canada
Well, after game one of the Ottawa Buffalo series, Ottawa managed a 5-2 win. It was a reversal of the last series between these two teams. Ottawa showed that it has learned from the past, and showed that it can play in the playoffs. Whether or not they can continue this streak, only time will tell us.
A few players of note, have shown maturity that is needed to win playoff games. Jason Spezza, for one, has learned to play two way hockey. Daniel Alfredsson, is playing like he did in the Olympics. Emery is looking sharp. Some of the other players are also stepping up their playing, Chris Neil, is doing what Chris Neil does. Mike Fischer played a spectacular game last night, scoring one, and laying some hard hits throughout the game.
It will no doubt make for an interesting series, as I cheer for our last remaining Canadian team. Go SENS Go.

Playoffs, round two.
And then there were two. Two Canadian teams left. Ottawa will have to get organized to beat the devils, and Vancouver is going to have a rough ride ahead against Anaheim ( I've updated my grid ).
I honestly hope the sens can keep it together against New Jersey, and not fall apart like Tampa Bay did. New Jersey, is an effective team, even though they are one of the more boring teams to watch play. New Jersey has much of the needed components for a playoff team 1) a reliable goaltender, 2) a good defense ( no one can play a trap defense like the devils ) and 3) players who can score the "ugly" goals. The goals that come from standing around the net and cleaning up the garbage rebounds, etc.
Having said this. Ottawa does have a decent goaltender, although not as reliable as Brodeur, their defense has been playing well, as well as their offense, and with some trade aquisitions they went and got a couple of players that can play in front of the net. So it should lead to an interesting round.
Go Sens Go. I found my sens flag this week-end while cleaning out the garage.

The playoffs are in full swing
Well it's once again time for the NHL playoffs to begin.
I've seen a couple of games so far, and i have to say, as usually the caliber has once again risen above regular season play.
I definitely like the look of the Ottawa Senators. Calgary has a chance if it can stay OUT OF THE PENALTY box. Vancouver's goaltender is playing like a stanley cup goaltender should. Anaheim is really going for it. But i am a firm believer that Lord's stanley's cup belongs in CANADA.
I've compiled my usual grid. viewed ( here ) for those of you who want just a quick glance of the standings.
may the best team win. ( that should read, may the best Canadian team win ).
